SOURCE, in its new role of Agency of services and communication, presents, from 17th to 22nd April, in the multidisciplinary cultural centre run by the association ZONA K (Isola Design District), LOVELY WASTE, a prototype of its new service: Source is going to support firms in the development of new ‘best practices’ in the field of circular economy. Lovely Waste involves 43 designers and 12 firms and is the first of a series of events meant to give room to projects and projectors paying attention to sustainability (both of product and process) and technology, two issues through which Source will be having the role of a connector between designers and firms. The nucleus of the exhibition is the “project n. zero” about the recycling of production waste, developed by the designers Francesco Fusillo, Alberto Ghirardello, Filippo Protasoni and Sebastiano Tonelli with the Tuscan firm WooClass, which produces customized wooden eyeglasses. Coordinated by the Source team, they discussed new development perspectives through the use of materials such as wood, metal, leather which currently go to the shredder. It is a first experiment to shape the methodology which can manage production waste through an integrated approach of creative projecting and “design to cost”, in order to transform the cost of waste into new opportunities of earning and development. As always, Source has activated a call, which has been answered by hundreds in Italy and from all over the world. It has been useful to select new designers. They have interpreted the theme developing it with different approaches, giving life to five different categories of projects. From reusing and creative recycling of waste to the km0 management of local resources passing through the design with recyclable and eco-friendly materials, up to projects which stress the ethical and social aspects of sustainability or technology applied to the production of everyday objects. The selection was born from the need of opening a debate about the circular economy, on which design can intervene at various levels, modifying processes, products and habits. An exhibition route which will become itinerant and will grow up with new collaborations and partnerships. Once again Source selection presents new names, young designers or students, with the aim of leaving room to future talents of the national and international scene. Through the use of natural raw materials and with a respectful approach to the local economy, all of them try to carry on km0 projects, which until recently have been labelled as self -production. Of a different nature the cooperation with Ugolini, a firm from Veneto which produces machines for the dying of yarns. “With Ugolini we will launch a creative contest addressed to young designers and we will try to investigate how design can improve the process of production, intervening in not necessarily aesthetical standards“. The presence of Primato Pugliese will complete the team: together with Archistart (creator and curator of the event), they will host a selection of excellent representatives of Apulian handicraft. Among the partners also the new-born consultancy company Mays International, linked to Source for marketing and communication. Amidst the selected projects also the winners of the contest Re-design your future, organized by the magazine LegnoLab, of which Source is a partner, taking part in the jury which assigned the prize.
