Venice lido is a charming and magical place, fertile ground on which to develop imagination and inspiration, a thin stretch sandy beach of 12 kilometers surrounded by the waters of the Venetian lagoon. An exclusive location, where the natural environment goes hand in hand with the signs of tradition and modernity. As the Nicelli building, the unique airport which, during the Second World War, passed unscathed through the bombs, characterized by the typical architectural shapes of the 1930s, is the third on the most beautiful airport in the world classification. In proximity is located the historic building that hosts the annual Venice International Film Festival. In this extraordinary context, the Venetian designer Rudy Marinotto founded, in the late 80’s, a company called SIRU. Thanks to his technical knowledge and his strong design aptitude, he continues to create prestigious chandeliers and lamps for lighting, in which artistic invention, materials knowledge and the glassmaking processes blend into unique pieces, as authentic design objects. SIRU, not only a company, but much more. A real research laboratory in the field of applied arts. The glass, composed by sand and minerals, is a seductive material, versatile and malleable in a different range of shapes, finishes, colors, decorations: the skilled hand of the master-artist is free to create any kind of object. To the classical forms or those typical of modern design, the glass melts to the metal cages, linear structures composed by several steel wires. The production of the blown glass, performed in a furnace according to the ancient Murano techniques, handed down the tradition of Italian craftsmanship, where each object is unique, totally foreign to a serial production. “Design is one of the key words that characterize the excellence of Made in Italy products. From fashion to furniture, from cars to jewelry: these are some of the most important sectors of Italian handcraft.” Rudy Marinotto stated. At EUROLUCE 2017, in the name of design, SIRU proposed a series of extraordinary lamps, in which the knowledge of the materials and the ancient handmade techniques are mixed with innovative shapes and surfaces. Starting from the new SIRU concept solutions, the house changes its surrounding, transforming the entire space into emotional experiences of those who live in it. Thanks to the collaboration of some important designers and architects as Gumdesign (Gabriele Pardi and Laura Fiaschi), Kanz Architetti (Mauro Cazzaro and Antonella Mione) and Massimo Barbierato Studio, have been created original solutions made by the ancient technique of blown glass, reinterpreted in a creative vision of new forms and contemporary profiles. The glass is the protagonist, with its compositional structure, its elegant expressivity and its multi-sensory involvement, declined in different shapes or textures and colors, through the use of metal structures or old molds. It’s the result of a reinterpretation: an ancient technique, developed by Italian designers who have been able to create excellent and contemporary design objects in two-dimensional and three-dimensional effect. Faithful to the tradition but able to evolve, SIRU presented two new collections characterized by an innovative concept in which the technique, thanks to the contribution of some famous architecture and design studios, has been reinterpreted and declined in the sign of contemporaneity, reinventing color, surfaces and textures, through new shapes of metal structures and historical molds, creating solutions in which tradition and modernity mix themselves.
