The oceans are dying. But it’s not too late to savethem. Stella McCartney continues her commitment towardssustainability, and supports the conservation of our oceans by celebrating‘Ocean Legend,’ Captain Paul Watson. Earlier this July, the designer joinedforces with Parley for the Oceans and created a limited edition ‘Ocean Legend’Falabella Go back pack made of upcycled marine plastic debris. 100% of the proceeds go towards ocean conservationorganisation Sea Shepherd Conservation Society for their 40th anniversary insupport of their mission to protect all marine wildlife and the oceans.This ispart of our ongoing commitment to animal and eco-friendly fashion.

The project is in honor of Captain Paul Watson, theiconic conservationist, poet and co-founder of Greenpeace and founder of theSea Shepherd Conservation Society, is featured in the short Q&A film withthe designer discussing his work, life and ocean activism. This is the firstinstallment of the designer’s ‘Ocean Legend’ series which will recognize andcelebrate outstanding individuals of the ocean movement.

Our oceans are under attack. Overfishing, pollutionand climate change threaten the survival our planets oceans. Coral reefs, theworld’s most diverse marine ecosystem, are projected to disappear by 2050. Eachyear an estimated 100 million sharks are killed by humans, scientist reportthat if the pattern of killing of the largest species in the ocean continues weare facing a future without animals such as great white sharks, blue whales andsouthern bluefin tuna which could disrupt ecosystems for millions of years.
