His first collection of bags and accessories was presented at the White fashion show in Milan in February 2017, capturing the eye of international buyers and press alike, thanks to the sharp, clean look of his creations. For Fall/Winter 2017-18 Roberto Di Stefano designed eclectic creations marked by thoughtful, decisive style, stark and contemporary, embodying the spirit of the young designer of Swiss origin who lives and works in Milan. Every element of the collection traces a precise conceptual map of the designer’s vision, simultaneously revealing his aesthetic intent: to explore the world, experience its cultural, social and artistic aspects as sources of inspiration, all with an awareness of relative possible preconceptions, then radically overturning the thought process through creative action. A transformational aesthetic action that goes beyond classic standards of taste and beauty, exceeding them and transporting them to a higher plane, towards freedom of thought and creative expression. A creative flight from where it is possible to contemplate the point of departure with a brand new sense of understanding and perspective. The result is a revealing collection for the designer, which interprets the process as a journey, first through and then above the conceptual labyrinth, deconstructing it, reassembling it and then redefining new possibilities of meaning. It is here that the creative labyrinth of Roberto Di Stefano takes form in designer accessories that are basic but never predictable, puzzle-pieces to be investigated with the eyes, taking them in hand to then deconstruct them according to their desired use. Objects created to be worn by a woman of brilliant and spontaneous intelligence, a free spirit who recognizes a truly elective kind of refinement. The collection presents a few models designed in different variants exploring materials and colors. The deconstruction and recreation of context passes through every stage of the creative process: this is evident in the selected materials, like the leopard print pony skin leather, a pattern widely associated with seductive femininity, which here is “morphed” and redesigned thanks to its combination with rigorous shapes and materials, including Plexiglas, taking on a whole new meaning. Textures that are easily traced back to an image of luxury, like velvet and beaver fur, find new aesthetic combinations in an apparent contrast with models made in more contemporary materials, the fruit of continuous research, like water-based laser printed Napa leather with a rough cement appearance, white craquelé leather, 3D effect salmon skin, PVC, Plexiglas and resin. Unusual combinations that reveal a spontaneous freedom of thought and design capable of creating new compositional balance. Linear shapes and pure geometries, like the rectangle, square, and circle. Transformism as a creative and conceptual synthesis thanks to his studies at Art and Fashion Design at Rome’s Scuola Internazionale D’Alta Moda and at the Esmod University in Berlin. And collaborations with some of the world’s top luxury brands in places like London, New York and Hong Kong. The collection is entirely made in Italy by master craftsmen in Lombardy and Tuscany, using custom made leathers and materials of the highest quality, paying homage to the culture of fine product manufacturing and expertise that make “Made in Italy” a sign of excellence around the world.
