Printed in 3D by fusion deposition modelling and embellished with coloured ERGAL and brass, the collection Macrocosmos is the first line of furniture accessories devised that marks the official launch of Alessandro Zambelli Edizioni. The new brand, the brainchild of the designer himself, focuses on experimentation in design and on the creation of limited-edition objects and accessories. Macrocosmos is a collection of vases and receptacles, conceived as little presences within the household. Iconic, yet emotional, they betray an unmistakeable degree of abstraction, instantly recognisable from their brightly mixed media, lively and capricious colouring and firm lines. Precious detail adds sparkle to these fantasy, dreamlike and bizarre creatures inspired by the animal, vegetable and human world. The result is an alchemy of pop-art visions, laced with irony. They are a genuine and overt tribute to the world of science fiction and to the eternal human fascination with unknown universes and extra-terrestrial realities, remote from our everyday perception. “Macrocosmos” – the designer explains – “derives from my very personal desire to lend a new and contemporary interpretation to a specific manufacturing sector. Until a few decades ago, this was a staple industry in the village where I live, known to this day as ‘the village of toys’ because of its vast numbers of doll and toy factories. My intention was to revive the near-surreal amazement I used to feel as a child whenever I saw those stacks of wooden crates, crammed with toy parts for assembly. But I’ve sought to revisit that ‘wow’ feeling with the insight of the person I now am. That is how this first collection of objects came into being: an assembly of shapes, colours and different materials.”
