Debatable, the new collection designed by Ilaria Bianchi, examines the semantic and symbolic importance of tables, a driving force and support of conversations between humans. The first two families of tables – Matter and Joint – will be presented at MiArt in Object section, curated by Hugo Macdonald, dedicated to a selection of galleries that promote experimental and limited edition designs, decorative arts and collectable historical pieces. Here Dimoregallery presents, besides pieces of Tomaso Buzzi e Atelier Seguso of the 30s and 50s, the tables collection by Ilaria Bianchi. Debatable is born from a reflection on the many roles of tables in human interaction. As Hannah Harendt said: “To live together in the world means essentially that a world of things is between those who have it in common, as a table is located between those who sit around it.” Tables are a place – a perimeter of discussion. Different agents seat around a table, and place their perspectives and ideas at the centre: sometimes irreconcilable, sometimes shaped by their respective encounter. The table is an agora, it is both public and private. These thoughts are contextualized by DIMOREGALLERY’s historical design collection, and for this reason Debatable is inspired by and celebrates a specific, historical creative bond: the one between Josef Hoffmann and Carlo Scarpa. Scarpa was deeply influenced by Hoffmann, admitting he knew nobody’s work as well as the Architect’s. Debatable is a system made out of 4 families of tables, with different dimensions, typologies and functions. The 4 families become 4 design elements of dialogue and debate, each one of which tackles a theme close to both designers. This intellectual connection is expressed structurally in the furniture. Debatable is made of un-objective objects, instruments of discourse that hold sentimental, symbolic, and conceptual value. The rest of the collection will come out during the current year.
