Roxanne is the new armchair designed by Micheal Young for the italian furniture brand Gufram to homage the playful and colourful soul of the brand. It will be showcased in a special booth, at 100% Design, designed to enhance the shapes and colours of the piece. As well Roxanne will be on the main stage of the fair for the opening talks with its authors Michael Young on September 20th at 11am: he will talking us through its design philosophy and also explaining the concept behind his new collaboration with Gufram. The name of this seat evokes music as well as Michael Young’s passion for Sting and the Police. And music played a fundamental role in the conception of this sinuous armchair: as a matter of fact, the inspiration comes from the disco decor that the radical designers of the Seventies designed and that, in many cases, was produced precisely be Gufram. Michael Young’s forms have always combined ergonomics with technology, sinuous looks and cutting edge materials. Roxanne was designed with the aid of an innovative computer program that enabled the designer to build a highly ergonomic and comfortable form. The armchair is the perfect choice for clubs, restaurants, hotel lobbies and lounges: being fully customisable using the most diverse fabrics, it becomes a design landmark in the environment giving it the perfect twist. Besides the stunning look, Roxanne also features some useful details which makes it a great addition in any working environment. The seat is characterized by a groove along the whole perimeter – called “The Tube” – which can be used a useful pocket for small purses, phones, tablets or any paper document. Plus, the armchair can also be equipped with an optional spring mechanism enabling it to rotate on itself and go back to the exact starting point once you stop using it.
