After the special family of ceramic humidifiers successfully produced in 2010, Il Coccio design edition, produced and distributed byMartini Spa based near Parma, is back at centre stage, expanding its product range with objects for different uses and different spaces in the home. The new collection was presented last February during the fair Ambiente 2017 in Frankfurt and it is a family of objects for the home in ceramic created – under the supervision of Giulio Iacchetti – by a team of designers: Agustina Bottoni, Dario Gaudio, Odoardo Fioravanti, Giulio Iacchetti, Lorenzo Palmeri, Sarah Richiuso, Mario Scairato, Valerio Sommella, Alessandro Stabile, Studio Klass, Sovrappensiero Studio, Luca Spagnolo, Yet Matilde Studio, Carmelo Zocco. The objects in the new collection are small and medium in size, for easy use and – in certain cases – with a way of fostering new habits thanks to their original design characteristics. Generating empathy and instinctive appeal, these objects set out to make an immediate connection with those who see them, as well as a positive relationship with those who use them. The various pieces are different from one another, just like the designers who have imagined them: in the chorus of unison provided by the ceramic material that is the brand’s trademark, the products offer a range of virtuoso variations of sign and genre. _PROJECTS Made in ceramic in the Nove district (Vicenza), the 19 products of the collection are all available in four colours: pure white, green, pink and grey. TORRE / candle holder by Agustina Bottoni: a form designed for 38 mm candles, serving both as a holder and a place to store refills. The structure can contain three candles, while another one is in use. LEVANTE / clock by Dario Gaudio: like a (domestic) sun that rises on the top of a bedside table, a desk, a dresser. Simple geometry that keeps its posture, looking at us, thanks to an equally simple cut. ZETA / pitcher by Sarah Richiuso: featuring a spout that becomes a surface ready to keep ice cubes from pouring out with the beverage. ZACK / mosquito coil holder by Giulio Iacchetti: like a little volcano that surprisingly conceals and protects the spiral of a mosquito coil, whose presence is betrayed by the smoke that rises from the chimney. COLLO and COLLETTO / vase and container by Odoardo Fioravanti: an elegant tailored form captured in ceramic for a vase that welcomes and supports our flowers. An open, versatile container that emulates the precision of fine tailoring. AMBO / ashtray by Luca Spagnolo: the practical, hygienic and unexpected grip reminds smokers in movement of their beloved vice. TINO / basket by Mario Scairato: a container of small things, Tino references the form and uses of typical wicker baskets. With its form that plays with symmetry and asymmetry, the border can also support taller objects. ALE / candlestick by Sovrappensiero Studio: an invitation to grip, with the delicacy of a gesture – and a form – that suggests the candle holders of bygone days. SANDRO / candlestick by Sovrappensiero Studio: a continuous form that supports the candle while offering a solid grip. MANCIA / catchall by Yet Matilde Studio: the contents of our pockets get split up in a natural way by the form of this object. The coins that accumulate inside it can be retrieved with a simple gesture. LUCILLA / lamp by Alessandro Stabile: the form of this table lamp is generated by a single surface folded back on itself. As if the ceramic material were soft fabric, concealing an intimate but effective light. Light source: E14 socket, standard light bulb T-SHIRT / vase by Lorenzo Palmeri: the vase has three openings – all equally ready to welcome flowers, in always unexpected combinations. CARGO / containers by Carmelo Zocco (two sizes): small domestic containers, stackable, for multiple uses. For small stashes and modular geometric arrangements, thanks to the two available sizes. TERNO / centrepiece by Valerio Sommella: a geometric element replicated and oriented in three directions, for an object that is surprising due to the effect of reflection of light. As in a cubist composition, an illusion of three-dimensional volumes, of spaces and facets. Among the new products in the collection, Il Coccio design edition also presents a small family of countertop objects designed by Studio Klass: LAC / toothbrush holder: a new form and a new gesture for a very useful everyday object: the horizontal (rather than vertical) design protects the bristles, draining drips into the special recess. The brushes are protected and the ceramic is easy to clean, eliminating any stagnant build-up. PASO / soap dish: the form permits dripping, keeping your soap bar dry and compact. STEP / container and jewellery holder: to contain small objects inside while extending them to the outside at the same time, for a handy subdivision of little items and accessories. _____ IL COCCIO and Il Coccio design edition IL COCCIO, an Italian brand founded in the 1960s, has always been associated with the production of humidifiers and ceramic housewares. With IL COCCIO D’AUTORE, since the 1980s the company collaborated with exceptional designers – like Alessandro Mendini and Nanda Vigo – for the creation and decoration of humidifiers. The entrepreneur Fulvio Martini acquired IL COCCIO in 2006, continuing the production and distribution of the firm’s humidifiers and accessories. In 2010 the brand launched a “design edition” of humidifiers created around the reissue of the famous “Fischietto” model – designed in 1998 by Achille Castiglioni for IL COCCIO. Coordinated by Giulio Iacchetti, the collection of humidifiers can now be seen in the Il Coccio Design Edition catalogue, and is composed of pieces by renowned international designers: Fernando Brìzio, Marco Ferreri, Monica Förster, Alfredo Häberli, Giulio Iacchetti, Alberto Meda, Denis Santachiara, Patricia Urquiola.Il Coccio design edition has now become a brand in its own right: a design edition for ceramic housewares, with a focus on good design, an exceptional creative guide and a roster of carefully selected designers. The collection presented in 2017 bears the signatures of designers who work in Italy, chosen and commissioned by Giulio Iacchetti from the proposals received in response to a public open call launched on Facebook. With the brand Il Coccio design edition, Fulvio Martini wants to bring energy to creativity, design and Italian character, with a focus on beauty, quality and culture. A collector and lover of the arts, with a passion for good and beautiful things, Fulvio Martini is the owner and manager of companies that are very different from one another. His firm Martini Spa, founded in 1969, is an Italian leader in the production of sponges for personal care and housekeeping, as well as accessories and complements. He is also the owner of Fortulla, a winery located in Castiglioncello (Livorno) that produces wine, grappa and extra-virgin olive oil, distributed in Italy and abroad. Another property is Casale del Mare, a high-quality relais amidst the vineyards and olive groves of Castiglioncello, in Tuscany. The Fortulla brand and Casale del Mare are part of the Agrilandia agriculture corporation. In 2005 Fulvio Martini – handling the entrepreneurial side of the operation coordinated by Giulio Iacchetti – made the project “Design alla Coop” possible: he contributed to the creation of twenty prototypes of objects for housecleaning and laundry, shown first in a traveling exhibition in Coop supermarkets all over Italy, some of which were then produced and sold by Coop. In 2009 the project “Design alla Coop” received the Prize of Prizes assigned by the President of the Italian Republic, an honour the “Italian government assigns for innovation, supporting the role of its leading figures in the social, economic and scientific growth of the country”.
