Naples, a capital in the Mediterranean circuit of culture with its rich history of talented craftspeople, local manufacturing industry, and prestigious art scene is the only place in Italy where could be born EDIT Napoli – the innovative fair created to support and promote independent designers. A fair that favours quality over quantity and a practice rooted in making. From today to 9th 2019, at Complesso di San Domenico Maggiore in the heart of historical city centre, the fair focuses on the rise of the designer-maker: those who sidestep the industry by flying solo on all aspects of design production, from conception and fabrication to branding and distribution. It’s a striking new path and never before has a design fair exclusively spotlit this specific trend.EDIT Napoli showcases a mix of well-known names, younger designers, established producers and collaborations between manufacturers and designers. It addresses the thought-leaders of the design world and aims to build a bridge between designer-makers and buyers, retailers, interior designers, and architects. 60 exhibitors scouted Domitilla Dardi and Emilia Petruccelli, creators of the project, among leading designers and manufacturers who will exhibit pieces through a series of creations conceived exclusively for EDIT Napoli: French product and interior designer Constance Guisset; Nika Zupanc and her eccentric elegance; the design exploration of Andrea Anastasio and the Italian glass artist Simone Crestani (Eterea console table, photo © Alberto Parise):Dutch research will be represented by names such as maker Dirk vander Kooij:and the intuitive and spontaneous design of Max Lipsey:Among the artisans and established companies that will take part in the June’s showcase, are GHIDINI1961, a world reference in brass production:the research and metal craftsmanship of De Castelli with Marea by Zanellato/Bortotto (photo © Alberto Parise):and Italian ceramic tradition by Bitossi Ceramiche (photo © Delfino Sisto Legnani): Many designers will also launch original collaborations with manufacturers, including Gum Design with Alfaterna Marmi, Daniele Della Porta with B Beds 1967, BCXSY con Laboratorio Morseletto, and Elisa Ossino with Nesite. EDIT Napoli emphasises the commitment to the territory and its heritage through its Residency program. The collections created by Khaled El Mays, Reinaldo Sanguino and Faberhama in collaboration with local artisans will be displayed at the fair and internationally commercialized under the “Made in EDIT” label. A collaboration with PPPattern is added to the project: the Neapolitan artist Resli Tale create a ping pong table – PPPingPong – for the courtyard of the Complesso. The best original work – a collection that embodies the distinctive qualities of EDIT Napoli: intelligent design with an emphasis on the process, a tie to heritage, and a sensible price – will be awarded by an expert committee. Pamono will present “Indie Rock: The New New Wave”, a show inspired by Memphis and celebrating the independent spirit of today’s designer-maker: Antonio Aricò, Yasmine Bawa, Bloc Studios, Serena Confalonieri, Eligo, JCP, Portego, Purho, Secolo, Elisa Strozyk, Wall&Decò. EDIT Talks and EDIT Table by Food Confidential will enliven the fair programme and the elegant courtyard of the Complesso will be vivified by the culinary corner of Pasticceria Scaturchio 1906 designed by architect Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva.
