From the first sketch to the final result, Marta Alonso and Imanol Calderón are thinking to the soul of the materials they use. Whether they are focused on product design or architecture, first and foremost they have respect for the soul of the material, its history, its functionality. Only in this way can a design express its own, well-defined personality. They are then the result of teamwork, working closely with the client, as a collective that draws strength from sharing and plurality. In 2015 they were awarded the Special Mention by Architizer A+Awards and Best Young Spanish Designer by Elle Décor. Marta and Imanol have fallen under the spell of artisan mastery.The essence of Mayice Studio projects is to give a new usefulness and a contemporary vision to ancient instruments and gestures. This is the case with their Rfc+ lamps created with molds from the Real Fábrica de Cristales de la Granja, each with its own identity and origin. These molds were last used at the beginning of the 20th century. Every time a piece is sold, the historical heritage of a company that has an extraordinary collection of casts of undoubted historical and artistic interest is preserved.The multifunctional RAY table was also constructed by three artisans. Artist, industrial designer and cabinet-maker Frank Buschmann created the ash-wood top with his own hands. Mihai Herrero produced the legs and sliding drawer with a metallic structure of white-lacquered tubular steel. Finally, the pure cotton net has been woven by Marta herself, based on the ancient techniques of San Sebastian fishermen. RAY represents the aqueous forms of the marine world, where not only beauty but also accuracy, fairness and effectiveness are found. These same elements form the basis for all of Mayice Studio’s designs.The latest one, Filamento, is a sculptural piece made of a single, long piece of glass, the result of studying how light travels through the concave and convex parts of the transparent material. When illuminated, the propagation of particles called photons becomes a visible and linear form of energy. Form and material vanish, giving way to a filament of light. Also conceived as an outdoor light, it was crafted in Spain. A piece that is more than 4 meters long will be on display, together with the Rfc+ lamps, for the Fuorisalone at Rossana Orlandi, and also part of her new restaurant in via Matteo Bandello 14 in Milan.
