Cecilia Xinyu Zhang’s approach to design is based on material investigations and process experimentations. Her recent work examines the relationship between object, space and viewer where she explored the idea of introducing spatial consciousness into objects to alter viewer’s perception of object and space. New prototypes were exhibited at SaloneSatellite / Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2018 and some new products launched by Norwegian brand Northern. Born in 1989, Zhang holds a master degree in Design from HDK – Academy of Design and Crafts – Göteborgs Universitet in 2014. After graduation, she worked alongside Marcel Wanders Studio before establishing her own studio. She received Rising star award during Stockholm furniture and light fair in 2016, and Red Dot Design Concept in 2017. Zhang currently operates her eponymous studio in Bergen, Norway. She works in the fields of product design, furniture, interior and art installation.
