The new collections Tape and Folded XL are designed by the Raw Edges design studio, founded by Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, both born in Tel Aviv, became part of the Mutina team in 2010. Yael likes to fold slim layers of all sorts of material as if they were paper, creating curved volumes and functional forms, while Shay has a passionate interest in the way things move, function and interact. These two different approaches combine in the creation of original projects, characterised by a keen sensitivity towards the environment. Tape is made up of several coloured patterns that rest on two base raw tiles, one white and one black, creating different atmospheres in the same room and a soft blend of one pattern with the other. Tape collection is suitable for both floor and wall tiles, for indoor and outdoor use – glazed porcelain stoneware, in a single size: 20.5 x 20.5 cm. – creating different settings thanks to the vast number of possible combinations. Folded XL has the same effect of folded paper of the collection of the same name but in a larger size. This makes it possible to do away with joints, obtaining a continuous surface without any interruption to the design. The new collection is made entirely in an extra white body of porcelain stoneware, without the addition of glazes or colouring agents. At the end of September Mutina presented “Mutina Unveils“, 5 new collections designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Raw Edges and Patricia Urquiola, the new showroom, set up in the headquarter designed by Angelo Mangiarotti during the 70s, and MUT, the Mutina for Art exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art. From the words of the CEO Massimo Orsini: “Mutina Unveils is the most mature event in Mutina’s history, with which the circle that brings to the perfect integration between the two souls of the company closes and design blends together with art.” With Mutina Unveils, the company officially joins the big slab’s world: Cover, the new collection by Patricia Urquiola, plays with materiality and geometries, and two great successes as Déchirer by Patricia Urquiola and Folded by Raw Edges, will be re-proposed in an XL size. Mutina adds the launch of two more unveiled collections, along with the big slabs: Piano by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, characterized by vibrant colours and endless combinations, and Tape by Raw Edges, with multiple graphic patterns. All these news are linked with MUT, the new space dedicated to contemporary art, in which THINK OF THIS AS A WINDOW will be inaugurated, as the first exhibition of the Mutina for Art project, curated by Sarah Cosulich involved with the company’s desire to give an articulated structure to its commitment towards contemporary art, making it a source of influence, experience and, above all, a territory of exchange. The project included THIS IS NOT A PRIZE – an important prize awarded annually – and DIALOGUE, a program of collaborations with artists, galleries and partners as well as international art institutions. Mutina represents a brand-new way of looking at ceramics, which is no longer conceived as a material for tiles but as an interior design project. This artistic project combines technology with hand-crafted details and experimentations that transcend the limits of the materials, and indispensable research for innovation to ensure a high-quality product. Mutina works with designers such as Patricia Urquiola, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, Rodolfo Dordoni, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Tokujin Yoshioka, Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay of Raw Edges, Inga Sempè, Konstantin Grcic, a team that shares the same passions and approach to a unique product based on continuous research.
