The fascination of a path made of ink and imagination. The blank white space is sometimes approached with fear, sometimes with the dreamy eyes of one who waits, with curiosity and excitement, to discover what will happen. And when you consider that, thanks to the support of a simple sheet of paper, stories have been told, artworks drawn, buildings planned, adventures lived or symphonies created, it’s easy to understand how – with imagination and a sheet of paper – you have everything you need to give life to your ideas and shape to your creations. With these concepts as a starting point, Fedrigoni launched a campaign: “A Blank Paper Challenge”, inviting us to open our minds and let our creative potential emerge. Two events for the senses have enlivened Madrid and Barcelona with the participation of artists from different disciplines who were asked to reinterpret some locations set up for the occasion. Paper and its many artistic applications was the undisputed focal point. Workshops and informational presentations on how this valuable material is fabricated allowed participants to explore the boundaries of imagination. Among the artists present was Victoria Gómez who, with her Keep Organic brand, presented her 3D paper creations. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, where she studied Advertising and Marketing at IUNP (University of New Professions) and Fine Arts at the Cristóbal Rojas Institute. Victoria then immigrated to Europe where she studied fashion design; her professional path can be traced through France, Spain and Germany. From director of the first International Festival of Independent Magazines in Barcelona (CMYK), to Art Director for the fashion brand Martin Lamothe, and Marketing Director of the art and fashion magazine Metal, she has also participated in prestigious international events such as the Barcelona Fashion Week and Bread&Butter. Victoria has now begun a new stage in her artistic expression involving Japanese inspired paper art techniques. Ikebana Paper Art is Keep Organic’s new project, an installation inspired by the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging and created in collaboration with landscape designer Elena Stanic. Observation of works by the artist Azuma Makoto (floral art) and the light sculptures of Isamu Noguchi have both had a strong influence. The aim is to raise public awareness of issues related to the care and conservation of nature by working with artists in areas ranging from music to food, as well as producing documentaries, sustainable projects and workshops that will give life to a collective work of art that will be auctioned and the proceeds will be donated to charity. “My work is inspired by Nature and my close relationship with her. The language of my work is organic and reflects a deep insight into the shapes, backgrounds, lights and shadows found in natural environments. I use simple techniques such as cutting, folding, gluing which I combine with natural materials such as paper, branches, organic fabrics, wood … My ongoing research on the paper techniques of Origami and Kirigami has allowed me transform an ordinary material like books, money, documents, and cards into something unusual with a simple appearance, with a subtle beauty that conveys fragility and forcefulness at the same time, like Nature itself” explain Victoria Gomez. photos_©Katarina Baliova
